I just recently started a morning ritual and I have already started seeing positive results in my mindset and I believe you can too if you try it out.
Since starting this morning ritual, I feel more energized, I have more confidence and I have more motivation to get my daily tasks done. I am already sold on its power and I have started waking up earlier so I have time in my morning to get it done, which says a lot since it takes a lot to get me out of bed any earlier than 5 am.
So, I started thinking why a morning ritual is so important and why many successful people do it.
I wish I had known of the power of a morning ritual before because I would have included it in my 5 Things Wealthy and Successful People Do post, as I have learned that many successful people do in fact have a certain way they go about their mornings.
Seeing how successful people have a morning ritual and how merely one week of such a ritual has given me some benefits already, I thought it would be great to spread this knowledge with all of you.
Some of you may already have a morning ritual and that’s great! You are setting yourself up for success each day by doing so. However, it seems like most people do not have much of a morning ritual and they end up feeling tired, stressed and rushed in the morning, which only hurts their productivity.
So, without further ado, here are my 5 reasons why morning rituals are a must in your life:
You Are Able to Reflect on the Day
Every morning I take the time to write down how the previous day went for me. This helps me gauge my progress towards the goals I have as well as take a measurement of what went right and wrong.
By doing this, I have a better measurement on the various habits and actions I do each day that work for me and don’t work for me. I also write down the thoughts and emotions I had while doing these things and it has helped me to increase my own self-awareness. For instance, if I decided to overeat the previous day, what was I feeling? Was I feeling angry or sad and I was trying to escape? For me that is often true so it helps to write this down as it keeps me from reacting to my emotions in such a destructive fashion in the future.
Keep a journal every morning or before you go to bed at night to get your thoughts and emotions on paper. By doing so you will clear your mind and your brain can operate more effectively with a clear and de-stressed mind.
You Are Able to Tell Yourself Empowering Affirmations
A great reason why taking the time to have a morning ritual each morning is so helpful is that you can tell yourself empowering affirmations. Here are some things that I have started to say to myself each morning and I suggest you try them for yourself and adjust them to your life situation and religious beliefs:
My past and failure do not define me, they only teach me.
I am awesome, I am a great person to be around and I have my own unique gifts.
(If you believe in God) I am a child of God and I am loved by Him and others.
I am grateful for all the blessings in my life (think along the lines of health, food, clothing, shelter, family or friends).
I will achieve my goals with hard work and dedication.
I will earn the ability to relax by accomplishing my daily goals first.
Failure is only a true failure if I give up. If I keep going, it’s a lesson.
At first, I felt weird and awkward telling myself these things, and you might as well. And that’s ok. If you feel weird about this, it is because you may have been so used to negative and toxic thinking that you might feel awkward saying something positive for once. One thing that I have done to overcome this weird feeling is to simply persist with telling myself these affirmations. I started making them a habit and now I no longer feel as weird about it.
If it doesn’t feel weird to you that’s ok too because that probably means that you are already conditioned to think positively about yourself, your life and your situation. Either way, say some of these affirmations during your morning ritual, you will notice a steady improvement in your overall mood, mindset, and attitude on life.
I have become more optimistic myself with these affirmations and I also have a greater sense of self-worth, self-confidence and self-belief. You will as well with time and persistence.
Able to Increase Your Energy Through Different Exercises
Although there is nothing wrong to have your morning coffee to give you an extra boost of energy for the day, it is a short-lived boost. You will eventually crash and feel just as groggy as you did when you first woke up.
So what I like doing is specific exercises during my morning ritual, which helps me feel more energized first thing in the morning. Some examples of what I do every morning are deep diaphragmatic breathing, stretching, jumping up and down or spending 30 minutes out on a run or swim. This helps me relieve the stress I may have accumulated from the previous day and helps me to be more energized and have a productive day, especially because there are some mornings where I wake up and feel very groggy, these exercises gives me a boost so I can attack the first part of my day.
I am confident that if you integrate some exercise, be it breathing, swimming, running stretching or lifting, you will have more energy and less stress and you will be more productive in your day as a result.
Increase Your Confidence, Motivation and Drive
By starting off your day with an empowering morning ritual, you inject extra positivity into your life and because of that, you will start to become more confident, motivated and driven to achieve your short-term and long-term goals.
The self-reflection, affirmations, and exercise will all inspire and energize you to give each day your very best.
If you reflect, you will know where you fell short and where you succeeded. This will force you to learn from the failure and replicate the successes.
When you tell yourself positive affirmations each day, you are increasing your confidence because you are essentially giving yourself love. We get so wrapped up in what others think about us that we forget to love ourselves and that is very damaging.
By taking the time to love yourself and tell yourself how awesome you are, you start ingraining beliefs that empower you.
This will also motivate you because you tell yourself that you can achieve your dreams even though you may fail at first.
This motivation will inspire drive from within you and that will help you become more productive throughout your day, tackling every project you have with the utmost intensity.
Increase Your Overall Happiness and Fulfillment
Lastly, your morning ritual is crucial to you because you start to sense an overall sense of happiness and fulfillment. Your affirmations are an incredibly important part of this because making statements about things out loud will ultimately change how you think.
If you say things like “I’m grateful for all the blessings in my life” and “I will make it no matter how much I fail” you start to internalize this positive thinking and your brain adjusts as a result.
This is partially how I overcame depression and anxiety. By becoming more thankful for the good things in my life and using my morning ritual to focus on them, I switched my mentality from very negative and cynical to optimistic which had done wonders for my mood.
